OTAGO

ŌTĀKOU

We're carrying out one regional study in Otago. Our goal is to:

  • improve our understanding of the aquifer structures using existing Glass Earth data.

Prior to embarking on this work, Aqua Intel Aotearoa prepared a report on potential water sources for the Otago region.

The work AIA has underway in Otago relates to re-interpretation of Glass Earth data. This data was collected in 2007 through the Frequency Electromagnetic (FEM) aerial mapping technique to identify minerals in Otago. The approach has some similarities with aerial mapping being undertaking by AIA using the SkyTEM system (time-domain electromagnetic mapping) but is not optimised for groundwater mapping. As a considerable investment was made in this dataset, the decision was taken to see whether the data could be reinterpreted to identify aquifer structures as an alternative to also flying Aerial Electro-Magnetic Mapping. This project will be completed by the end of 2024.

Please get in touch if you have any questions.
